Join the COLGBTBA and ACBA for a CLE on May 6th. 10th Circuit Judge Carlos Lucero will present the first half over his 2014 decision in

Kitchen v. Herbert, the first of the circuit courts to hold that state bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. He will discuss the constitutional issues considered in reaching the ruling – equal protection, due process, liberty interests, and fundamental rights.

Building off the marriage equality background started by Kitchen, the second half will be presented by attorneys Rachel Catt and Ann Gushurst over a current Colorado case, In re Marriage of Hogsett. They will discuss the indicia currently used by Colorado in determining whether a common law marriage exists, then go into the issues these can pose for same-sex relationships, especially those formed prior to the Obergefell ruling.

Free for members of the COLGBTBA and ACBA,
$10 for non-member guests. Refreshments (water/soda) provided, please feel free to bring your own lunch.
