Arapahoe County Regional
Virtual High School Mock Trials

February 25 & 26, 2022

This year's tournament will be virtual.
URGENT! HELP NEEDED...

The ACBA High School Mock Trial Tournament affords an excellent opportunity to Colorado youth to get involved in a rewarding and fun learning experience. This program is made possible thanks to attorney, paralegal and community volunteers. Please consider being a part of this incredible educational experience for high school students by volunteering in one or more of the  capacities listed below.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25

  • Round 1 starts at 1:00 p.m.
  • Round 2 starts at 4:00 p.m.
    - Need 1 Scoring Panelists

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26

  • Round 3 starts at 9:00 a.m.
  • Round 4 starts at 12:30 p.m.
    - Need 2 Scoring Panelists

VOLUNTEER ROLES (Confirmations will be emailed prior to tournament, but please be sure to add your requested time to your calendar.)

  • Scoring Panelist: Three attorneys, paralegals or community members comprise the scoring panel. The score is based on presentation and not on the legal merits of the team's case. A scoresheet is completed.
  • Courtroom Monitor: This individual normally is a member of the public, employed at the courthouse, or any other volunteer that doesn’t wish to score or judge a round. This is a very important role for a smooth tournament overall. (For a virtual tournament, this role is critical. You will open the courtroom, record the tournament, and notify the Tournament Staff of any conflicts or needs. -- Must be familiar with running a Zoom meeting.)
  • Presiding Judge: During the tournament, the presiding judge acts as the voice of the panel, controls the conduct of the courtroom and trial participants, and supervises the tie constraints imposed by the rules of the tournament. The presiding judge rules on motions and objections based on the rules of evidence. The presiding judge does not announce a verdict on the legal merits of the case, but conducts the trial in all other respects as if it were a real trial. This position will be approved by the Tournament Coordinator.
