Each year hundreds of attorneys join the legal profession in Colorado and take the Oath of Admission. In the Oath of Admission, we swear or affirm that:
I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Colorado; I will maintain the respect due to courts and judicial officers; I will employ such means as are consistent with truth and honor; I will treat all persons whom I encounter through my practice of law with fairness, courtesy, respect and honesty; I will use my knowledge of the law for the betterment of society and the improvement of the legal system; I will never reject, from any consideration personal to myself, the cause of the defenseless or oppressed; I will at all times faithfully and diligently adhere to the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct.
This year join the Arapahoe County Bar Association as Jessica E. Yates of Attorney Regulation Counsel discusses with us the Rules of Professional Conduct directed at the betterment of society and the improvement of the legal system and the representation of the defenseless and oppressed through the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct Pro Bono Rule 6.1 and Colorado Rules of Procedure Regarding Attorney Discipline and Disability Proceedings Rule 250.2.
There will also be presentations by organizations that provide members of the bar the opportunity to fulfill their oath to use their knowledge of the law for the betterment of society and represent the defenseless and oppressed.
